Saturday 6th April saw the first staging of The Longtown 10m Road Race.
The sun was shining and the sky blue on a gorgeous April morning in the small border town.
Over 100 eager runners gathered for the very first running of this event.
A traditional 10m looped road running race in the east of the county.
Organised by local firm Sport In Action this new race aimed to offer runners a new challenge to the long standing race routes.
Phil from Sport in Action said ” we hope to utilise areas of north Cumbria and south west Scotland and show off some hidden areas. Runners were treated to spectacular views westwards on the second half of the race to a full panorama of the Lake district and solway coast. I don’t think conditions could have been any better, cool, bright and virtually no wind; I wish I could have ran myself”
Russell Maddams of Keswick AC was first home in a great time of 55:30.
The early lead was held by John French of Eden Runners but a strong push mid way through from Russell saw him break clear and never look back.
John went on to finish 2nd in a time of 56:35.
In the ladies race a clear winner with over 3minutes to spare was Jacqui Khoueiry of Holmfirth Harriers in a time of 1:10:17
Second lady home was local athlete Sian Finley of Dumfries Harriers in a time of 1:13:45
Dumfries Harriers had a great day taking prizes in all the categories, in all 25 of the clubs runners were present.
Sport in Action are grateful to Longtown primary school for the use of the school even during refurbishment works, and also to friends and family who did a great job marshalling.
