Talkin Tarn Duathlon Race Report
Despite the big money Stockton Duathlon being held on the same day just a few miles down the road, the Talkin Tarn Sprint Duathlon, sponsored by cycle company Bike Seven, drew a strong field to the country park looking for an early season workout.
Athletes tackled a tough 5k run on a mixture of roads and grass paths, followed by a windy and exposed 20k bike. The final 2.5k run was a welcome relief, a single flat lap on the tarn side path.
Winner, in an excellent sub hour time of 59.27 was Jon Fletcher of Arragon’s Cumbria Tri Club. Second and showing great promise for the future was 15 year old local athlete Jordan Hull of Tri4U. Rounding out the podium and making a comeback after a serious bike accident was John Hore racing for the event organiser’s, Sport in Action.
Carlisle Tri Club took a clean sweep in the ladies event, with Karen Bridge holding off Ria Lowrey and Ali Wilson.
First veteran male was Graham Higgins of the Endurance Store Tri Club and first female was local lady Andrea Fox of Carlisle Tri Club
Vet 50, Dave Smith of Carlisle Tri Club won his age category, with the ever green Keith Forrester also of Carlisle Tri Club taking victory as first vet 60.
Stuart & Vicky Russell of Carlisle Tri Club won the relay race.
