Race Information

Venue

The race venue is the Richard Rose Morton Academy and Morton Pool, Wigton Road, Carlisle, CA2 6LB. There is ample free parking on site.

Registration

Registration is open from 11:00 until 12:00 and will be well signposted.

Members of British Triathlon must show their race licence.

Course maps will be on display at registration.

Race Briefing

The briefing will be 12:15 near transition.

Waves

Information on waves will be published at registration but from previous experience, with around 160 competitors, there will be around 12 waves between 1230 and 1500.

Swim

Morton Pool is a 4 lane 20m pool.

WE WILL TRY TO KEEP TO A MAXIMUN OF 3 SWIMMERS PER LANE OF SIMILAR ABILITY BUT WE CANNOT GUARANTEE THIS – SOME ATHLETES HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO PROVIDE ESTIMATED TIMES.

Each wave will be called to enter the pool by the main entrance and will be seated until the allotted wave time.  Please listen out for your wave.

Distances

Tri Start – 2 lengths (40m).

Tri Star 1 – 6 lengths (120m).

Tri Star 2 – 10 lengths (200m).

Tri Star 3 – 16 lengths (320m).

Youth – 20 lengths (400m).

Different coloured swim hats to be worn in each lane provided by the lap counters. THESE ARE TO BE DROPPED BY THE SWIMMER ON EXIT AND WILL BE RE-USED.

No diving permitted. Tumble turns are allowed.

Lap counters will indicate when a swimmer has 2 lengths to go. Please adhere to the instructions of the lap counters.

Transition

Exit the pool by the corner exit onto the matting and up into transition. Transition will be on a grassed area.  The transition area is quite small so please remove kit once you have finished and try not to place your shoes/kit until close to your swim time. Follow the marshal’s instructions out onto the run course.

Run Routes

For 2015 all run routes are within the school grounds.

Tri START competitors have their own small lap of the run course, basically one lap of the main school building.

The rest of the children will complete a 1000m circuit, only a different number of times depending upon their age group, as follows: –

Tri Star 1 – one lap.

Tri Star 2 – 2 laps.

Tri Star 3 – 3 laps

Youth – 4 laps.

Although marshalled we cannot count the laps for the children so they will have to remember this themselves, parents can help in this regard. At the end of each lap the children will run past the finish chute, this should make it spectator friendly and is a good place to shout encouragement.

WE WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE EACH CHILD/PARENT/CARER WALKS OR JOGS A RUN LAP BEFORE THE RACE BEGINS TO LET THE CHILDREN FAMILIARISE THEMSELVES WITH THE COURSE.

Adult

New for 2015 the adult run course is four laps of a 1250m circuit.

Finish

Please be prepared to shout your race number out at the finish to ensure time keepers are able to identify everyone. All finishers will receive a medal and water will be available as you cross the line.

RACE NUMBERS

Please note that for 2015 – all competitors including the children will be required to wear a race number to the front either pinned to a race vest/top or on a number belt. This is a change from previous years.

Refreshments

We hope that Carlisle Tri Juniors will have a stall selling snacks and confectionary.

Presentation

This will occur as soon as possible after the last finisher, without tempting fate we are normally pretty quick in this regard!!

Prizes

There are gold, silver and bronze medals for male and female top 3 in each child’s age group.

There will be prizes for the first three male and female open adults and the winner in each veteran age category.

On behalf of Sport in Action and Carlisle Tri Juniors we hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable race.
