Carlisle Santa Dash and Fun Run – This event has two simple objectives. Firstly and most import is to raise as much money as possible for the Jigsaw Charity, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice at a time of the year when children should be in the forefront of all our minds. We are hoping that 100% of all entry fees will go to The Jigsaw Charity. For us to achieve this, we are seeking companies to support the event by supplying goods for the event or meeting the costs that will be incurred. So if anyone reading this owns a business or knows someone that would like to get involved please ask them to get in touch at info@Sportinaction.co.uk.
Sport in Action, Carlisle Tri Club, DH Runners, Border Reiver Runners and all marshals will be giving up their time free of charge. If you can’t take part and would like to marshal (Santa suits will be provided), then please get in touch and send us your details; Name, Mobile and Email address.
The Second objective is to have fun and enjoy the day, whatever the weather.
The Santa Dash is a 5K run and will be manually timed. ALL runners must wear a Santa Suit. There will be no winners prizes, Jigsaw will be the winner. We have decided to start the 5K 60mins before the Fun Run/Walk so all those taking part in the 5K can join friends and family in the fun run/walk.
The Fun Run/Walk -Santa suits will be provided to all entries. Children 5 years and over we will have suits for 5 to 8 or 9 to 14 and the adult suit is one size fits all. Please enter early to guarantee you get the sizes you are after. Entries under 5 are free. We are able to supply Elf suits and medal for ages 3 to 5 or a Santa Hat and medal if preferred. Remember, as the weather will be cold at this time of year, we advise you wear suitable layers underneath the Santa Suit.
All Runners and Fun Runners/ Walkers will receive a Festive Medal on completing their Santa Dash that can be worn with pride and displayed on your Christmas tree for all to see.
All runners please be aware that the exit at the Tullie House Museum side of the underpass only has stairs or a lift to access street level. The children’s hospice provides one to one care for children and young adults with life limiting illnesses, as well as extending the care and support to their families. Jigsaw’s home-from-home environment allows the nurses to match the children and young adults home routine as closely as possible, ensuring a smooth, relaxing and peaceful transition between the home and hospice environments.
Care for Children & Young Adults
Jigsaw is a place of fun and laughter where children and young adults can stay and create memories which will last a lifetime. Our welcoming and safe atmosphere provides a place for children and young adults to receive the care and attention they require.
We provide one to one care for children and young adults with life limiting illnesses, with the facility for up to five children and young adults staying overnight. Our home from home environment allows the nurses to match the children and young adults home routines as closely as possible, ensuring a smooth, relaxing and peaceful transition between home and hospice environments.
Whilst at Jigsaw the children and young adults are able to engage with a wide range of creative and sensory games and activities.
- The multi-sensory room provides place for children and young adults to listen to music, whilst special lighting creates rotating patterns on the walls and ceiling
- The activity room, “The Smoothie Bar”, is packed with arts and crafts products for all ages and abilities. The room also includes a computer, games consoles and a toy cupboard
- The children and young adults are also able to enjoy the secure sensory garden, which includes a water fountain, wheelchair accessible roundabout and raised flower beds.
During their stay at Jigsaw, we also provide the children and young adults with the opportunity to go on a range of different outings. We are very lucky to have lots of amazing places in the local area we are able to visit, including local parks, farm parks and tourist attractions.
Care for Families
We are here to offer friendship with practical, emotional and spiritual support for you, your child and your family. We hope you will feel at home with us and as your needs change we will adapt too.
Our ethos is to work in partnership with the children, young adults and their family, as well as the professionals involved in your child’s care. Our aim is to maintain your child’s routine wherever possible, ensuring their stay is as special and enjoyable as possible.
